In 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic affected many Salvadoran families and even more those who were already in a situation of vulnerability. In response, Asociación Manos Amigas activated its aid protocol to benefit the people who were affected. Different deliveries of food packages, medicines, supplements and others were of great help to more than 1000 families located throughout the Salvadoran territory.
Among the municipalities benefited with such assistance were communities in Huizúcar, San Luis Talpa, Tapahualca, San Pedro Masahuat, San Pedro Puxtla, among others. Approximately 720 families received food packages containing non-perishable food, basic grains, hygiene and cleaning items, for a total of 3,600 groceries.
At the same time, Manos Amigas delivered 336 chickens to heads of families, and also supported more than 56 families with construction materials. Both events took place in the community of Miraflores in the municipality of San Luis Talpa, department of La Paz.
Getting off to a good start
The NGO began 2021 by generating opportunities for 4 entrepreneurs through the delivery of seed capital. With the aim of promoting and developing future entrepreneurship, Manos Amigas launched its new project “Bringing Income Generation Opportunities to Youth in Vulnerable Situations”, where 25 people are technically trained in the manufacture of textile products. This project is supported by TELUS INTERNATIONAL.
