About Manos Amigas
We believe in improving living conditions for underprivileged and vulnerable families in El Salvador through the implementation of socially oriented self-reliance programs that offer the tools necessary for both families and communities to flourish. These families possess a desire and drive for work, self-reliance, and success.
Our greatest satisfaction is planting the seeds of hope and empowerment into the hearts of each person we encounter.

The fruit from the Morro tree is our essential raw material, since its external shell is of wooden texture. The internal part of the fruit is utilized as food for cattle, as well as for local drinks like Horchata. The Morro tree is about 8 meters tall and its fruit, the Morro, is about 7 to 10 cm in diameter.
The Morro tree is found in warm climates. It grows along the coastal regions of El Salvador in great quantities, however it also grows in other areas of the country. The fruit is collected and then sold to Manos Amigas.
Templates are made for the various designs to be drawn on the Morro, according to each product.
Each piece is cut using an industrial sander.
The individual pieces are then sealed and color is applied.
Throughout this process, the natural wood is shaped to conform to the final product.
Each piece is sealed and a coat of paint is applied according to each design. After being painted it is then assembled with the wooden piece that compliments it.
Parallel to the process done on the morro fruit, work is done on the natural wood to give it texture and form.
The worked wood moves to the paint room followed by the dry room, where they are dried using infrared lights.
Once both processes are finished, both the fruit and wood pass to the assembly area. Here they are assembled and packaged along with any other parts necessary to the design.
Manos Amigas has been like a guardian angel to me. It has given me many opportunities I would never have had anywhere else. I have been able to improve my kids lives. They have given me a house, which without, we wouldn’t have a place of our own to call home. Thanks to Manos Amigas, I not only have financial stability, but emotional stability.
Manos Amigas has given me the opportunity to work. I have a daughter with disabilities, who I have been able to take to medical treatments. They have provided a clinic that that always meets my needs and those of my kids. In my case, I receive free services, since I am an employee of the Manos Amigas workshop.
